The Griffins played host to rival Mater Dei in round two of the CIF-Southern Section volleyball playoffs at the Griffin Gym last Saturday night. With a huge crowd on hand the Lady Griffins were relentless against their rivals, the Monarchs.
Playing the best out of five matches, the Griffins dominated games 1 and 2 with powerful skills at the net with unbelievable passing and digging in between.
“It seemed like everything we have worked on came into play tonight and we were fantastic,” said 4-year varsity coach,Dave Huber.
With the win Saturday night, the Griffins are currently on a 10 game winning streak. With players racking up skills at the net like Emily Hartong with 10, Jane Croson with 9, and Christina Harris with 7, there was no doubt which team came to play and to make a playoff statement.
In game 3, the Griffins were down 21-24 and rallied to win, 26-24.
“The crowd tonight was a big factor,” Huber said. “It was great to see so many fellow students, families, and the community coming out to support the girls.”
The Griffins will play on Tuesday at Mira Costa. The Griffins will have their hands full as they take on Mira Costa; however, they did beat Mira Costa earlier
in the year. If the Griffins win on Tuesday, they will play for the southern section championship Saturday night, Nov. 21 at Cypress college.
