American Legion and VFW Veterans Day ceremonies at the Seal Beach pier

Seal Beach American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States will hold a Veterans Day program and ceremony at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 at Eisenhower Park, next to the Seal Beach pier, honoring those who serve or have served in the United States military.

Paul D. Pudenz, Adjutant Post 857 of the Americna Legion and Jim Mueller, commander Post 4048 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will oversee the event.  The following is the program:

• Pledge of Allegiance: CDR, VFW Post 4048

SeniorServ offers Veterans Day lunch

With Veterans Day falling on a Sunday the Community SeniorServ is taking advantage of Friday, Nov. 9 to offer a special celebration honoring our local veterans at the North Seal Beach Senior Center (NSBSC) (3333 St. Cloud behind the library).

For the special Veterans Day celebration, CSS site manager Stella Callahan will be serving cooked White Fish topped with Romesco sauce, baby baker potatoes, whole baby carrots and a Parker House roll.  Dessert is chocolate cake topped with whipped cream.  Milk is served along with coffee. The American Legion Post 327 from Leisure World will have a strong showing but any area veteran 60 years of age or older is welcome to attend as CSS’s guest for its Veterans Day event.  Check in is before 11 a.m. Post 327 members should check with Post president Bud Sudbeck at (562) 594-0209.

Questions can be directed to Stella Callahan at (562) 430-6079. Community SeniorServ (CSS) operates 27 lunch centers throughout Orange County including the NSBSC.

Year round, CSS serves over 1.5 million meals to seniors age 60 and older for only a $3 donation.  Guests and caregivers under 60 are $5 donation.  No one is turned away for lack of funds.  Hot and cold lunches are at 11:20 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base

There will be a Veteran’s Day celebration at the Joint Forces Training Base at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday as the Protestant and Catholic congregations on the base sponsor a service at the Multi-Purpose Room (the “New Chapel”) in the East Wing of Building 6 in which the Liberty Theater is located.

Navy Captain (ret) John N. Ryan will be the primary speaker. He is the President for the Los Alamitos Chapter, MOAA. As a volunteer with the Seal Beach Navy Weapons Station office, which assists military retirees, he publishes a monthly newsletter for retirees.

His Navy career included 10 years with submarines and tours as Commanding Officer of a Destroyer, Cruiser, Recruit Training Command and also Commander, Fleet Training Group, Guantanamo, Cuba. Contact Chaplain Bill Thompson at 562-430-8438  or send email to chapbillt@aol.com.
