United Water Polo Club, one of the top youth water polo clubs in the US, will send five teams to the nation’s foremost water polo event, the National Junior Olympics, later this week.
The United teams attending will include the 10 & under co-eds, the 12 & under girls, the 12 & under boys (gold medal champions in 2008), the 14 & under girls, and the 14 & under boys who won the gold medal in 2009.
“We’re extremely excited to have such a strong representation at this world-class event,” says United Head Coach Trevor Wawrzynski. “This event is what we train for all year long and we’re thrilled to play against the top teams in the nation for the third consecutive year.”
United’s 10 & under co-ed’s team won first place during the Junior Olympics qualifying tournament held in May, followed by a back-to-back championship win in the California Cup 2010.
Meanwhile, the 14 & under boys’ team had a “grand slam” water polo year last year; winning both the National Junior Olympics held at Stanford University and the National Speedo Cup held in the University of Michigan.
The National Junior Olympics, sanctioned by the United States Olympic Committee, is the world’s largest event of its kind, with more than 370 clubs and 5,000 athletes expected to attend this year’s July 31 to August 8 Los Angeles event.
United Water Polo Club, established December 2007, provides water polo training for kids as young as 5 and as old as 18. For more information, go to: www.unitedwaterpoloclub.org
