The Rossmoor Homeowners Association will host the third annual Holiday Light Post “Santa” Workshop at about 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 23.
According to Chris Marshall, a resident of Rossmoor who organizes the Santa Light Post Workshop and the Rossmoor Christmas Lights Celebration, “We suspect there were at least 400 of these light posts on display on front lawns during the holidays last year. It’s a great way to share the community spirit with your neighbors.”
Marshall said that residents have decorated their posts to celebrate events like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter, Fourth of July, Hanukkah, St. Patrick’s Day, birthdays and even graduation ceremonies. “The interest continues to grow, and each year, we ran out of materials,” Marshall said.
The next workshop will take place at Rush Park on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 23, for residents to build their own Holiday Post. The RHA will arrange to have all the materials delivered to Rush Park and will provide step-by-step instructions and assistance from local elves, who have built them already.
For those would prefer to have a light post made for them, the RHA has secured the services of local Boy Scout Troop 188. The scouts will build and deliver a Rossmoor Holiday Light Post to residents’ homes for an additional charge of $20, which all goes directly to the scouts.
The workshop will be held at Rush Park in the grass area behind the main building. Participants should bring a cordless drill and bits, measuring tape, saw-horses, screwdriver.
All post materials will be delivered there for participants, who should be home by 4 p.m. Families are welcome.
The materials are $70 for the vinyl post base with decorative light fixture, wiring, secured mounts, brackets, decorative top and red ribbon bow.
A lighted garland is extra and many residents prefer to select it themselves.
