Do you want to be inspired and have a ton of fun? Come out to the 3rd annual districtwide STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, arts and math) Showcase on Saturday, May 20! It will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Los Alamitos High School Gym. It is open to the public and admission is free of charge.
The Los Alamitos Education Foundation is continuing its work with the schools and students of the Los Alamitos Unified School District by providing free STEAM classes and STEAM Fairs at all schools and sponsoring a district-wide STEAM showcase! The LAEF STEAM Initiative is funded by generous donations to the 2016-17 King and Queen of Hearts campaign, which ended on February 24 at the coronation gala and raised a record $180,000. LAEF also received generous funding from the Tesoro Foundation in the amount of $20,000, which supports the Middle School Robotics program and STEAM initiative.
At the STEAM Showcase, students of all ages will present their projects and have their work on display for all to see. The Showcase will feature a keynote presentation from Jenna Arkin, Director of Product Development at ECOS/Earth Friendly Products. STEAM professionals will also be on-hand to provide interactive booths that will introduce students to career opportunities. The Reptile Zoo will also be at the STEAM Showcase, plus snacks and drinks will be provided to round out the morning fun!
Hopkinson Elementary School, Los Alamitos Elementary and Oak Middle School all held their LAEF STEAM Fairs over the past couple of weeks where hundreds of students displayed and presented amazing and inspiring projects. The next STEAM Fairs will be held at Rossmoor Elementary on May 15, Lee Elementary School on May 22 and Weaver Elementary School on May 24.
LAEF is the non-profit partner of Los Alamitos Unified School District. LAEF enhances educational excellence by providing after-school and summer enrichment programs to children in grades Pre-K to 12. LAEF impacts all students by providing significant funding for STEAM teachers and instruction, as well as igniting new programs and providing valuable resources.
