Members of the Rotary Club of Los Alamitos/ Seal Beach organized a visit to the State of California Second Appellate District Division Seven Court of Appeal in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 3.
Rotarian and Appellate Court Associate Justice Fred Woods organized the visit with fellow Rotarian Sean Payne.
The Rotarians worked with Christy Ricks, College/ Career Guidance Counselor at Los Alamitos High School, to invite 10 students along for the visit.
After traveling to the Ronald Reagan Building located in downtown Los Angeles, the Rotarians and Students listened in to oral arguments presented in court.
They then had the opportunity to meet and have lunch in the Justices’ dining room.
The students, many of whom are in a criminal justice class or involved in Police Explorers, were able to ask questions about the court processes and procedures and the four justices provided insights into legal careers.
Justice Woods then allowed the visitors to tour his chambers.
“This was a wonderful experience for both the students and the Rotarians,” said Payne. “Justice Fred Woods was gracious to offer this opportunity and thanks to the hard work of Christy Ricks, the Rotary Club was able to bring this opportunity to the students at the high school.”
The Rotary Club of Los Alamitos/ Seal Beach, which is online at LosAlRotary.org, sponsors the Interact Club and awards a “Rotary Student of the Month” at the high school.
