St. Isidore to host New Year’s Eve dance

The DeNada Band will bring back memories of last year’s dance at the Plaza.

St.Isidore Plaza is welcoming in the New Year with the DeNada Band playing all the old favorites and remembering good old 2013.  “With 2014 rushing in, everyone needs to greet that Midnight Countdown with their dancing shoes on ‘tripping the light fantastic,’” said Anita Schommer of the committee trying to save the historic landmark.

The second annual New Year’s Eve Dance is being held at the Plaza, on December 31, 2013 starting at 9 p.m. and continuing until 1 a.m., January 1, 2014.

The Plaza is located at the St Isidore Historical Plaza, 10961 Reagan Street in Los Alamitos.  Tickets are $35 per person limited to ages 21 and over.  For more information or tickets, please call Kathy (562 881-3004) or Connie (562-412-0266).

St. Isidore Chapel is the oldest public building in Los Alamitos. Your donation to attend the dance will help purchase, preserve and protect the Plaza and surrounding property for use as a Park and Community Center.

In 1921, St. Isidore Parish was established. Holy Family in Orange and St. Anne in Seal Beach were established the same year. There were only five parishes established in Orange County prior to 1921, the first being San Juan Capistrano. All of these parishes were part of the Monterey and Los Angeles Diocese. Not having a church building, the parishioners met for services at the local Felts General Store or the Harmona Hotel, both of which were on Main Street (now Reagan Street) in Los Alamitos. These parishioners were field hands, employees of the sugar beet factory, farmers, ranchers, dairymen and members of the community.

While very small – population of about 500 – culturally, the town of Los Alamitos was very diverse.
