Have you been to the Seal Beach Christian Science Reading Room at 226 Main Street? Everyone is welcome to for free. It’s open to people of all backgrounds and a way of life. This is a combination library, bookstore, and a community reading center for the exploration of spirituality, prayer and healing. Bible students can find a variety of translations and commentaries as well as a computer program and works by Mary Baker Eddy that allows research.

Librarian Joanne Fernbach said: “My greatest joy comes when someone with a really curious mind, good questions and a willingness to listen walks through the door. We are not there to convert or to convince anyone that we have a special religion. The fact that we love the Bible and the guidance we receive from studying it daily, is what we love to share and what we have in common with every Christian religion; and we love to listen to what others have to share, too. We especially welcome the opportunity to correct false or mistaken concepts about Christian Science, and we hear them all the time. And as you saw, you don’t even have to come into the Reading Room to get the tiniest bit of inspiration … the spiritual snacks on the tea cart are one-liners guaranteed to brighten your day!”

A visitor from Huntington Beach said: “This is the best kept secret in Seal Beach. Anyone can come in at their lunch hour or any time in the afternoon and find a quiet place to read, or to just be alone with their thoughts, or to listen to God.”

An Indiana visitor said: “How beautifully the Reading Room was designed with a lending library and books for youth.” She noted that “there is something for everyone here.”

Their hours are Monday to Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. You may also call them at: (562) 799-1588.
