Community volunteersw pitch in during cleanup
Community volunteers had an opportunity to help improve native habitat by building bat boxes at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach Detachment Fallbrook on Saturday, Sept. 29.
The event was in celebration of National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands. Volunteers assembled wooden prefabricated bat boxes for placement around the installation. The boxes will be used by a variety of native species including the pallid bat and the western mastiff – both California Species of Special Concern.
The event was hosted by the naval weapons station environmental office and is made possible by grants from the Department of Defense Legacy Resource Management Program and the National Environmental Education Foundation.
Committee observes Hispanic Heritage Month
The Multicultural Committee observed Hispanic Heritage month on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Bachelor Quarters.
The observances were conducted to enhance cross-cultural awareness and promote harmony among all military members, their families, and the civilian work force.
The event included short educational presentations.
The committee is also looking for people to bring food for the potluck.
