Seal Beach seeks bids for pier improvement projects

The city government is requesting bids on two Seal Beach Pier projects: the renovation of the pier restrooms and the restoration of the pier’s concrete abutment.

First, the restroom project.

Contractors have until Tuesday, Feb. 13, to bid on the pier restroom renovation project, according to a legal notice published in the Feb. 1 edition of the Sun. The bids will be opened at 9:30 a.m., Feb. 13.

The winning bidder will have to pay prevailing wages to their workers, according to the notice. Each bid must be accompanied by a cash deposit, cashier’s check, certified check or bidder’s bond made out to the city of Seal Beach for at least 10% of the total submitted bid, according to the notice.

The city reserves the right to reject any or all bids.

Contractors will have until 9 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 14, to bid on the repair of the concrete abutment of the Seal Beach Pier, according to another legal notice published in the Feb. 1 Sun.

The same requirements apply to the abutment repair project for paying prevailing wages and for bonds.

The winning bidder for the pier restrooms will need a Class B license, according to the legal notice.

The bidders for the pier abutment project will need either a Class A or a Class B license.

What’s the difference?

“‘A’ contractors principally work with fixed works that require specialized engineering knowledge and skill; “B” contractors work on existing structures, structures being built or to be built that require at least two unrelated building traded or drafts during the construction,” according to the Contractors State License Board.
