Seal Beach PONY Baseball held its Third Annual Coach’s Classic on Sunday, April 27 at McGaugh Fields.

The Coach’s Classic was started by Seal Beach PONY Baseball Shetland Commissioner, Scott Ellison.

“I just wanted to create an event to get all the coaches involved and give back to our league … simply to have a fun day for us coaches for one day of friendly but competitive series of softball games with our players/families/friends cheering us on,” said Scott Ellison.

Four teams of coaches from the league played softball games and then a final championship game for the Coach’s Cup Trophy.

Pinto Commissioner Tyler Ledterman’s team won the trophy this year over last year’s winner Mustang Commissioner Chris Wyler’s team.  The final score was 11-7.

Plays at the plate, pulled hamstrings, sore backs and knees and even a broken pinky all were part of the day.

Shetland Indians Coach Tim Carey said, “It was great seeing our kids playing ball between the games, great for our baseball community.”  Donations of $5 per family were collected at the infamous Snack Shack, where you can get your Farmer John’s Dodger Dogs and your very own “chilli billy.”

The event raised over $1,000 for the league.

The next Seal Beach PONY Baseball’s family event will be Sunday, May 4 at the Long Beach State Dirtbags Baseball game.
