The Seal Beach Pier is open, up to the construction gate. Mayor Ellery Deaton told the Sun Friday, Sept. 29, that 3/4 of the pier would be open to the public for the Labor Day weekend. Deaton said that a structural survey had been conducted and city officials felt safe opening three-fourths of the iconic pier to the public.

The pier suffered partial damage as a result of unusually high waves caused by Hurricane Marie off the coast of Mexico. According to the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, 25 feet of the breakwater was damaged by the waves.

Deaton said staff would present a ccomplete report on the storm at the Sept. 8 City Council meeting.
