The Seal Beach Pier fire is now out. The pier is closed to the public.
A fire started in or near the former restaurant building at the end of the Seal Beach Pier at about 7:45 a.m., today, Friday, May 20, according to Capt. Larry Kurtz, public information officer for the Orange County Fire Authority.
He said 70 firefighters were on scene. Long Beach and LA County Fire were helping OCFA to fight the pier fire. Kurtz said one firefighter was injured and was transported to hospital. Kurtz said he would be fine. The fire appears to have originated in the area of the former restaurant building at the end of the pier.
City officials also responded to the scene, including Councilwoman Ellery Deaton, whose district includes the pier; Councilaman David Sloan, a
retired firefighter; City Manager Jill Ingram, Police Chief Joe Stilinovich and Marine Safety Chief Joe Bailey.
