In looking with optimism to a successful New Year, it is a privilege as the newly-elected mayor of Seal Beach to provide an outlook of what residents can look forward to in 2011.
First and foremost, we are extremely fortunate in Seal Beach to continue to weather the economic storm and maintain a balanced budget while focusing on our strong commitment to our community and the City’s ability to provide additional resources and fund infrastructure improvements.
The city will continue to spend conservatively, preserve current services at existing levels, and take additional steps in 2011 to ensure long-term financial stability. Within the next six months the council will focus on the development and approval of a newly-adopted budget for fiscal years 2011-2013 that incorporates City Council identified goals of delivering responsive, customer service to the residents of Seal Beach, addressing state mandates, city services, and improving and maintaining the quality of life for all residents.
There are several Capital Improvement Projects in the planning stages for 2011, and I would like to briefly highlight a few of the significant ones that will directly impact residents:
Citywide medians
Medians will be constructed on Seal Beach Boulevard between Pacific Coast Highway and Bolsa Avenue, and Lampson Avenue between Seal Beach Boulevard and Tulip Avenue. These medians are being constructed with grants from the state of California. It is anticipated that construction will begin in the spring of 2011.
Seal Beach Boulevard and Golden Rain Road improvements
The city has just completed a study looking into the intersection of Seal Beach Boulevard. While the intersection does meet all standard design requirements, it can be improved. The city is currently pursuing grant funds for this project, and if secured, it is anticipated that construction will begin in 2011.
Electric Avenue storm drains
The city is constructing storm drains on Electric Avenue between 14th Street and Seal Beach Boulevard that will help that area during rain events.
It is anticipated that this project will be completed in the spring of 2011.
Pier Re-decking
The city will complete the replacement of the Pier Deck in 2011.
