Seal Beach has selected a permanent director of Community Development.
Jim Basham, currently the community development director of Monterey Park, was publicly named as the new Seal Beach development director by departing Interim Director of Community Development Greg Hastings during the Wednesday, Nov. 7, Planning Commission meeting. Hastings said the new director would start in December.
However, the City Council has not yet approved his contract.
City Manager Jill Ingram confirmed that a new Community Development director had been hired and said staff was working on a press release to formally announce the new hire.
Jim Basham was planning manager for Monterey Park from February 2007 to late June 2010, when he was made that city’s Community Development director.
According to the Monterey Park website, Basham received a bachelor’s degree in urban planning from the California State Polytechnic University of Pomona and eearned his master’s degree in policy administration from the California State University, Long Beach. Before joining the city of Monterey Park, he served as the principal planner for the city of Pico Rivera from 2001 to 2007.
