City Council Election Update
Two candidates have now qualified to run in the District 3 Seal Beach City Council election. Deputy City Clerk S. Anita Chapanond confirmed that Amalia Almasy had qualified to run as of Wednesday, Aug. 11.
Eight citizens put in papers to run in the Seal Beach District 1, 3 and 5 City Council race in November. Seven candidates qualified to run for office in November. In related news, there was a City Council Candidate Forum: at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 12, in the Council Chambers. The so-called forum was an orientation concerning how city departments work.
In a memo to the City Council, City Clerk Linda Devine said three potential candidates declined to file their papers. Amalia Almasy apparently did not qualify, according to a Monday afternoon, Aug. 9 e-mail from Devine to city officials. The period for write in candidates is from Sept. 6 to Oct. 19. The candidates are listed below by district and alphabetically by name.
