Police allege criminal threats, brandishing of an imitation firearm

Seal Beach Police detectives arrested a Montclair man after he was allegedly involved in a road rage incident in Seal Beach on Friday, Oct. 16. He was arrested the day after the incident.

On Friday, Oct. 16, at about 11 a.m., the Seal Beach Police Department responded to a call of a road rage incident involving a firearm in the area of Seal Beach Blvd. and Westminster Ave. The suspect fled the area in a vehicle and was not located.

On Saturday, Oct. 17, at about 11:30 a.m., while conducting surveillance, Seal Beach Police detectives located the suspect and his car in the city of Montclair. With the assistance of the Montclair Police Department the suspect was contacted as he drove away from a residence and taken into custody without incident. A BB gun (similar in appearance to a semi-automatic handgun) was located inside the vehicle, which matched the description provided by witnesses.

The suspect was identified as, Edward Welborn, age 26, of Montclair. Welborn was later booked at the

Orange County Jail on suspicion of felony criminal threats as well as brandishing an imitation firearm.

“I would like to thank the Montclair Police Department for their assistance and professionalism in safely apprehending the suspect without incident. We cannot bring suspects such as this to justice without partnerships and teamwork from every community” said Chief of Police Philip L. Gonshak
