The Sun recently asked various city officials one question: What opportunities and challenges do you see ahead for Seal Beach in 2013?
The Sun asked the question by either e-mail or phone.
Councilwoman Ellery Deaton. who represents District One, said: “This upcoming year will also bring us the challenge of finishing the DWP project with the opportunity of providing more than six acres of park for our residents and visitors.”
Deaton predicted 2013 would be a wonderful year.
“This year the council has planned to replace the lights on Main Street with old fashioned lights that match the pier lights,” Deaton said.
The future of the former location of Ruby’s Diner was something she described as both a challenge and an opportunity.
“A challenge we face is to find just the right restaurant to replace Ruby’s,” Deaton said.
“Ruby’s has been a part of our community for 25 years and I’m sorry it has made the decision to leave Seal Beach after all these years,” Deaton said.
“But, while a challenge to find a new restaurant, it is also an opportunity as one of the ways I wish to meet the goal of providing the best quality of life for our community is to have a clean pier enjoyed by all … fishermen as well as restaurant goers and those just out for a stroll,” Deaton said.
Deaton also cited the importantce of maintaining the city’s infrastructure and preserving Seal Beach’s quaint lifestyle.
