The murder trial of the man charged with the Seal Beach Salon Meritage shootings, the worst mass murder in Orange County history, has been delayed until March 2013.
Farrah Emami, spokesperson for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, confirmed news reports that the trial of Scott Dekraii, who has been charged with eight murders and one attempted murder, would not begin until March of next year. The trial was originally scheduled to start Oct. 15, 2012, just three days after the first anniversary of the crime. Now it is scheduled to start next year.
The shootings occurred on Oct. 12, 2011, when a man walked into the Salon Meritage beauty shop in Seal Beach and began shooting people. The Seal Beach Police Department captured the suspect within 15 minutes. He was reportedly in possession of multiple firearms and wearing soft body armor.
Dekraai faces the death penalty. He is custody in the Orange County Jail.
Emami said Dekraai’s next pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 19, 2012.
