Rossmoor man arrested for shooting adult step-grandchildren

Michael Molle, 72, is in custody at the Orange County Jail.

A brother and sister, both adults, were shot in a Rossmoor home Thursday night, July 31, apparently as the result of a domestic dispute with their step-grandfather who has been arrested for attempted murder. The brother has been released. The sister remains in the hospital.

At approximately 8:25 p.m., Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to 2842 Tucker Lane, Rossmoor, following reports of a shooting at the residence.  Deputies arrived and discovered a woman and a man suffering from gunshot wounds.  The victims were identified as brother and sister. Their names have not been released. Both victims were transported to local hospitals where the man was treated and released.

However, the female victim remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.  Michael Molle, 72, Rossmoor, was detained and arrested at the scene. Lt. Jeff Hallock, an OCSD spokesman, said Molle was apparently the step-grandfather of the victims.  Lt. Hallock said that Molle was booked on a charge of attempted murder.

According to the Sheriff’s Department website, Molle’s bail has been set at $500,000. Molle is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Aug. 4.

Based on the preliminary investigation and information learned at the scene, it has been determined the victims were siblings and step-grandchildren of the suspect.  It appears the shootings stemmed from a domestic dispute but no further details are being released.  A handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered at the scene.
