Police seek tire iron attack suspect

Police suspect the man in this surveillance photograph of attacking another man with a tire iron.

Seal Beach Police are investigating an assault with a deadly weapon that occurred late Sunday night, June 28.

At 10:12 pm that night, officers responded to a report of an aggravated assault with a tire iron at the Mobil Gas Station on 12240 Seal Beach Blvd.  Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim, a 26-year-old Cypress man, was filling up his gas tank when he was struck from behind with a tire iron.  The reason for the attack is unknown.  The victim suffered a large laceration to his head and was later treated/released from a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  At the time of this release, there is no indication on motive, other than a random act of violence.

The suspect was last seen running southbound on Seal Beach Boulevard towards an unknown destination.  He was described as a man who appeared to be Hispanic, thin build, dark complexion, 5 feet 11 inches, clean shaven, wearing black tennis shoes, with white knee high socks, long khaki shorts, a black tank top, and a black on white baseball hat.
