Planners to look at Zoning Code and rooftop access on Sept. 16

There will be two public hearings at the 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16 Planning Commission meeting. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers on Eighth Street. One hearing will be on an ordinance to amend the Municipal Code to set standards for so-called accessory dwelling units and junior ADUs, according to a legal notice published in the Sept. 5 print edition of the Sun. This would be a citywide change to the Seal Beach code to make it consistent with state law. For more information about the zone text amendment, call Associate Planner Patricia Garcia at 562 430-2527, ext. 1324 or email her at pgarcia@sealbeachca.gov.

The other hearing will be on a request for a minor use permit for a covered roof access structure. The proposed roof access structure would be 5 feet and 2-and-one-half inches above the height limit for a new, single-family home in Surfside Colony.

The legal notices for both public hearings say that any legal challenges to the items on the Planning Commission agenda may be limited to issues raised during the hearings.  The legal notices for both public hearings also say that both items are exempt from California Environmental Quality Act requirements.
