Pier fire was electrical

Seal Beach officials confirmed late Monday that the pier fire was electrical. Power was apparently still going into the old bait shack at the end of the pier.

Investigators determined the fire was not arson.

A detailed report was expected to be released later in the week. The pier will be one of the city construction/maintanance projects—officially called “capital improvement projects”— to be reviewed at the Monday, June 13 City Council meeting.

According to a recent Sun News online poll, 69 percent of participants expect the Seal Beach Pier to be closed for more than a year.
