The Seal Beach Recreation and Parks Commission on Wednesday, Nov. 28, received and filed an update on the open space plan for the Bay City Partners Property. The presentation included a conceptual drawing of what the park might look like.
The commisioners voted 3-0 to receive and file the presentation. Commissioner Carla Watson was absent that night.
A staff report said the conceptual open space development proposal will be presented to the California Coastal Commission as part of the permiting process for the proposed development of residential housing on the site.
Commissioner Marc Loopesko said four Seal Beach residents and one member of the Audubon Societyspoke in favor of the concept.
Ed Selich, project manager for Bay City Partners, said the commission was pleased with the plan.
This past July, the owners of the former Los Angeles Department of Water and Power site agreed to give the city 6.4 acres of beachfront land for a potneital park, provided the California Coastal Commission issues a Coastal Development Permit for the proposed Ocean Place housing project.
If the development permit is issued, the city of Seal Beach will have to fund and develop the 6.4 acres of park land.
