Longtime Long Beach residents will remember the Cyclone Racer and the Looff Carousel that made The Pike a favorite amusement area in the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s. Some of that nostalgia will return as part of The Pike’s new graphics and signage program.
Set to be installed beginning in mid-February, the 12-foot by 22-foot sign panels will include whimsical, historic photos of the area as well as some tenant signage.
The panels will be placed on a number of currently empty walls facing South Pine Avenue, Shoreline Drive and other locations on the interior of The Pike. Signage installation is expected to take about 30 days.
“We are excited about these new graphics,” said General Manager Jeff Miyaoka.
“It will not only enhance the look and feel of the property, but it also is the first step in helping to market The Pike and the entire waterfront region as a unique destination for visitors and locals alike,” Miyaoka said.
He said the signage continues the momentum The Pike has shown in recent months with the addition of new business operations.
The new businesses include KODI Boutique, which features contemporary women’s apparel; The Pike Mini Market, a new location for snacks, drinks and Long Beach souvenirs; and Sultana’s Delights, a soon-to-open Mediterranean restaurant.
“Our new signage will bring back some fond memories of Long Beach’s waterfront to everyone who visits The Pike,” Miyaoka said. “But the waterfront’s best days are still ahead.
“We have great entertainment venues here at The Pike,” Miyaoka said.
“We have a world-class aquarium across the street. There are incredible hotels, harbor tours, top restaurants, beautiful parks, water activities and even a comedy club. We have it all right here,” Miyaoka said.
