New assistant principal at Oak School

Los Alamitos Unified School District recently announced  Gary Willems as the new Assistant Principal at Oak Middle School.  Willems has worked in education for 10 years beginning in Newport-Mesa and Glendale Unified School Districts and most recently in Los Alamitos Unified School District for the past five years.

As an eighth-grade social studies teacher at Roosevelt Middle School, Willems was an ELD specialist and worked in the gang prevention sports program.

After securing his next step in education, Willems proved himself to be a valuable asset in the Oak Middle School community.

Besides teaching both seventh and eighth-grade social studies, he immersed himself in leadership opportunities as school site council chairman, social studies department chair, promoter of intervention programs, and supporter of the lunch-time sports programs.

Willems received his Bachelor of Arts degree from University of California, Santa Barbara and his Master of Arts Degree in Education and Administration from California State University, Long Beach. “I am committed to creating life-long learners.  Nothing will stop me from providing opportunities for every child,” said Willems.
