Murder attempt in College Park East

A Seal Beach man was arrested Tuesday afternoon, April 17, for attempting to murder a woman with a samurai sword in Seal Beach’s College Park East neighborhood.

According to the Seal Beach Police Department, an officer was patrolling the 4400 block of Elder Avenue when a woman came running down the street. She told the officer that someone had just tried to kill her.

According to the police, she said a family member raised a 5-foot samurai sword and lunged at her. They had been arguing before the sword attack.

The woman ran from the house.

The suspect was identified by the victim as Andrew Baoan Nguyen, a 21-year-old resident of Seal Beach. He had fled the residence before police arrived.

SBPD broadcast the information to all local law enforcement agencies. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department reportedly spotted Nguyen at about 7 p.m., Tuesday night., on the 405 Freeway. He was followed back to his Elder Avenue home, where he was arrested.

He was booked for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of cocaine and being under the influence of cocaine.

According to the OCSD website, a 21-year-old man named Andrew Baoan Nguyenphuc was arrested by the SBPD on Tuesday, April 17.
