The accolades just keep coming for Los Alamitos standout basketball players Kassidy Beach and Kayli Liew with both receiving new and separate honors that place them among the top 2024 high school players in Orange County.
Beach, a 6’1” senior center, has been recognized by the Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association (SCIBCA) as a Southern Section All-CIF Second Team player for Division 2A, and, in a completely different ranking, Liew, a 5’6” senior point guard, has been placed on the All-County Fourth Team by the Orange County Register newspaper.
In addition to these honors, both players are the 2024 co-MVPs of the Surf League, as decided by a consensus of league coaches, and both are on the senior All-Star roster for North Orange County and will play in the 57th annual North vs. South 12th Grade All-Star Game on Saturday, April 27, at Cypress College.
The 12th grade all-star contest is organized by the non-profit OCO Club and is sponsored by Farmers and Merchants Bank. The girls all-star teams play at 5 p.m. and the boys all-star teams follow at 7 p.m.
In the all-star game, Beach (who has verbally committed to Westcliff University in Irvine) and Liew will be playing one last time for their Los Alamitos coach, Maya De Anda, who also was honored to be selected as the 2024 All-Star head coach for the North team after her Griffins (24-6) won a second consecutive Surf league championship this year.
“These two are very competitive and very good basketball players,” Coach De Anda said. “I’m very happy that they continue to get all this recognition for their hard work and success.”
In six league contests, Beach averaged 16 points and 9.3 rebounds and Liew averaged 14.7 points and 4.5 assists.
For the full 30-game season, Liew averaged 12.1 points, 4.2 assists, and hit 45 threes and Beach averaged 12 points, 10.4 rebounds, and had 13 “double-double” games in which she had double figures in both points and rebounds.
