The Seal Beach Police Department is looking for a man who apparently tried to lure a child to his vehicle Saturday evening, Sept. 4.
According to police officials, at about 6 p.m. that night, a 6-year-old girl was playing with her sister and family in College Park East’s Almond Park. She saw a silver-colored vehicle pull up to the curb near the playground. The driver signaled the girl to come over to his vehicle. The girl ran to her family to tell them what happened. The driver left. The vehicle was described as a silver pick-up truck or mid-sized SUV.
The driver was described as a white man in his mid-20s, wearing a blue T-shirt, a blue baseball cap with red lettering that read “LA,” similar to that of the LA Dodgers or Los Alamitos High School. Police officials do not know what the man’s intent may have been, so they are taking a conservative approach to the matter and investigating, according to Sgt. Steve Bowles, press information officer for the SBPD.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to call Detective Dave Barr at (562) 799-4100, extension 1110.
In a statement issued by the SBPD about the incident, police officials asked families to review child safety precautions regarding contact between strangers and children. The police commended the 6-year-old girl in Almond Park for being self-aware and knowing “what to do” when faced with this situation.
