Main Street landscaping begins April 4

Work begins on Main Street beautification.

Landscaping began on schedule today, April 4, on Seal Beach’s Main Street.

When Seal Beach installs 25 ficus trees on Main Street—begining Wednesday, April 4—non-ficus trees will be removed.

Tree removal will begin on April 4 at 101 Main Street.

City Engineer Michael Ho said those trees will not be recycled. He said they would be chopped up.

The Seal Beach Main Street Beautifucation Project will begin Wednesday, April 4.  City employees began posting notices on sandwhich boards on Main Street sidewalks.

Work is scheduled to begin April 4, with the removal of healthy non-ficus trees that will be replaced with healthy ficus. “In order to keep inconvenience to a minimum, the project will be constructed on one side of the street at a time,” the notice said.

No parking signs will be posted 48 hours before construction starts.

Ficus trees will replace non-ficus.

The Seal Beach City Council, following a two-and-a-half hour discussion, decied on Monday, March 26, to go forward with the plan to install 25 ficus trees on Main Street, put in new pavers and upgrade street lighting. Mayor Michael Levitt had asked the council to reconsider planting the ficus. The vote, however, was 3-2 in favor of going ahead with the landscape project. Councilman Gary Miller joined with Levitt in asking the city to study the matter further.
