The Los Alamitos Boys Swim Team won the Sunset League Championship on Friday, May 6 at Newport Harbor High School. In doing so, they became Co-Sunset League Champions with Edison High School of Huntington Beach, who went 5-0 in the league dual meets.
After finishing the Sunset League Dual meets with a record of 3-2 (losing to Edison and Newport Harbor), Los Alamitos was expected to finish third at the Sunset League Championship Meet to conclude the regular season. Instead, the boys surprised everyone by winning the meet with a total team score of 516. Edison finished second with 478, third place was Newport Harbor with 389, followed by Fountain Valley (232), Huntington Beach (225), and Marina (115).
Los Alamitos finished first in only two races, the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay, winning the meet instead on depth of the team. The boys placed four swimmers in finals in seven of the eight individual races, and first or second in all three relays.
