Storage containers on Los Alamitos Unified School District campuses and land were discussed at a workshop Tuesday, June 8. Several district and non-district organizations use storage containers to keep items in while they are not in use or for convenience to LAUSD facilities.
Unfortunately, some of the containers have fallen into disrepair, many having vandalism or even pests inside them.
In some cases, the district is unsure of who even owns some of them because board members change from year to year for many organizations.
In one instance, members of one organization drove across a campus during the school day while classes were going on outside to begin setting up for an event.
Director of Facilities and Operations Jim Poper said he wanted to create a policy that would make a standard for the way containers should look, who owns the container, what’s inside the container and a master lock system were some of the ideas board members had for the project.
Board member Meg Cutuli said she didn’t like the idea of having free storage for everyone.
Board president Dr. Jeff Barke said he hadn’t heard of any problems with the buildings from school staff.
Superintendent Greg Franklin said he wanted to make sure a policy was fair and equal to everyone.
The item was scheduled to be brought back to the board at a later meeting.
