Eight local Girl Scouts are earning their Girl Scout Silver Award by hosting community Food Drives and making no-sew blankets for the Food for Kids program.
Poverty causes many students to arrive at school Monday morning without adequate nourishment, having dramatic effects on their educational progress and self-esteem.
Local schools provide these children with breakfast and lunch on school days…but what about on the weekends?
Food for Kids assembles and delivers shopping bags of non-perishable food to local elementary school students every Friday.
The food is consumed over the weekend by the children and their families. To find out more about Food for Kids visit www.volcenter.org/food-for-kids.
Nonperishable items needed include dry milk, canned fruits and vegetables, beef ravioli, peanut butter, canned beans, oatmeal, cereal, tuna, macaroni and cheese.
To make a donation of items, please drop them off at First Team Real Estate, 12501 Seal Beach Blvd Suite 100, Seal Beach.
