Girl Scouts from Los Alamitos’ Weaver Elementary School Troop 854 collected 53 blankets for the less-fortunate residents of Long Beach Rescue Mission.
The blankets were delivered to the mission on Thursday, Dec. 3 by 10-year-old fifth-grade Scouts Mikayla Rothwell, Savannah Terrell and Katie Wallace.
The girls asked the families at Weaver to sort through old blankets and donate the ones they no longer needed to the Blanket Drive.
The three Junior Scouts developed the idea for their service project in pursuit of their Bronze Award. The Bronze Award is the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn. It shows her commitment to helping others, improving her community and becoming the best she can be.
Since 1972, the Long Beach Rescue Mission has opened its doors to thousands of men, women and children.
The mission provides food, clothing, shelter and spiritual guidance to the homeless and less fortunate people of the community.
The girls acknowledged their parents, Weaver Principal Erin Kominsky and Ambassador-Advisor Lysa Gamboa-Levy for their assistance with the service project.
