Lions opportunity drawing begins

It’s that time of year again – the Seal Beach Lions Club’s Fish Fry is only a few short months away!

As it has been for 25 summers previously, the Fish Fry will be accompanied by and concluded with the Lions’ annual Car Opportunity Drawing. Together, these two projects have traditionally represented the Lions’ largest fundraising effort of the year, and this summer is no exception. The revenue from these activities becomes the fuel that allows the Lions to support over 200 charitable events and causes throughout the community, ranging from school programs to free rides on St. Patrick’s Day to dozens of Sight Screening Clinics that provide thousands of underprivileged people with free eye exams and glasses.

For this year’s 26th annual Car Opportunity Drawing, the Lions are proud to be partnering with Huntington Beach Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep and offering a 2016 Jeep Patriot as Grand Prize.

With a stunning Midnight Blue exterior, the classic Jeep “look” of this rugged SUV has received a lot of attention at the Pier since its debut at the Seal Beach Classic Car Show in April.

The vehicle’s handsome lines and sporty attitude have played a big part in stronger than normal ticket sales this season.

Thanks to the generous assistance of local merchants Pedego and mac-fusion, an electric bicycle, along with a MacBook Air laptop and an Apple Watch will round out this year’s prize package.

The Lions will draw the winning ticket at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, during the 72nd Annual Fish Fry at Eisenhower Park.

Ticket price to participate in the drawing is $100, and as always, the number of tickets sold will be strictly limited.

This year, as last year, the ticket limit is 750 – astronomically better odds than a lottery ticket, and, in fact, better odds than $100 worth of lottery tickets. It is important to note, however, that tickets are once again moving very briskly. Sales are on pace with last year’s drawing, which sold out by July 4th, and the Lions are fully expecting the same this year! A special thanks goes out to the hard work of a dedicated team of project volunteers.

The Seal Beach Lions Club encourages anyone who wishes to purchase a chance in the Car Opportunity Drawing to do so at the Pier on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tickets are also available at Baytown Realty and Ellison Road on Main Street, as well as at this year’s “Band On the Sand” event for the Miss Seal Beach Court on Sunday, July 3.

Alternatively, contact Car Drawing Chairman Mike Gibbons at sblion.mgibbons@gmail.com, or simply ask any Seal Beach Lion.

Mike Gibbons is 2015-2016 Treasurer of the Lions Club and Chairman of the Car Opportunity Drawing.

The Seal Beach Host Lions meet at 6:45 p.m. on the first and second Wednesday at the Seal Beach Yacht Club at 255 N Marina Dr., in Long Beach. The next meeting will be May 18.
