The Seal Beach Surfing competition was called on account of bacteria. The annual event was scheduled to take place today, Saturday, Jan. 21, and Sunday, Jan. 22. However, the event was called off early Saturday morning.
“Due to a concern about bacteria levels from the rain, the Seal Beach Lifeguard Dept. has made the call to cancel the contest for this weekend,” said a message on the competation’s Web site. “We apologize for any incovenience this may have caused contestants and families. The call was made at 6 a.m. this morning. Contest will be held at a later date.”
The message was signed simply “Seal Beach Lifeguard Association.”
