Critical Congressional election
This year, 2012, is a critical year for our country.
The national debt now exceeds $15 trillion and is continuing to grow.
In the past four years alone it has increased 50 percent!
And in the last 10 years, the Federal Government has doubled in cost. All while we struggle to recover from a deep recession with 8.2 percent unemployment nationwide.
Rossmoor and Los Alamitos residents have a real choice in this year’s 47th Congressional District election—and it is a critical choice.
Gary DeLong is the Republican candidate.
He is a successful local, small businessman who is in his second term representing the 3rd District on the Long Beach City Council.
Gary is committed to balancing the Federal budget by getting expenses under control, stopping the runaway growth in the Federal Government, and growing our economy.
And Gary has an excellent record in Long Beach working with both sides of the aisle to get things done.
As a successful small business owner, Gary understands how to create jobs and the importance of reducing regulations.
In my opinion, he is exactly what we need in Washington to get this country back on track.
Gary’s Democratic opponent in this election could not be more opposite.
He has been a leader in the Democratic controlled California legislature for the past 14 years (6 years as an Assemblyman and the past eight as a State Senator).
How has that worked out for us? Well, the State of California has (i) the highest state general sales tax, the second highest gas tax, and the third highest state income tax; (ii) seen its debt triple in the last 10 years; (iii) a huge and growing deficit (originally forecasted at $9 billion, it now is forecasted at $16 billion), (iv) 10.4 percent unemployment rate in May 2012 (the third worst in the U.S.), and (v) a growing body of regulations that are driving more and more businesses out of our state.
In 2011, 254 California businesses moved some or all of their work and jobs out of the State, an increase of 26 percent over 2010 and 5 times the number in 2009.
The Democratic candidate for Congress in the 47th District has been part of the problem for 14 years.
This is exactly who we cannot afford to send to Washington.

Help needed for theater cleanup
The military is preparing our theater (the Liberty Theatre at the Joint Forces Training Base) for a wonderful event, “Bridging the Gap,” for our returning vets later this month.
They are replacing the broken tiles on the walls and the arm rests on our seats. They have been repairing the rocking seats that topple over from time to time!
So, this is a great excuse for us to do some of our own house cleaning.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, I will be at the theater to begin the clean-up.
Here is what we need to do:
1. Clean out costumes that we do not need—modern day, everyday clothes that we have basically purchased from Thrift Shops. Period and character pieces we will keep.
This will allow us so much additional space for proper storage and care of what we have.
2. Props—We have lots of junk that can be taken away. The prop room upstairs and also in our storage units need to be gone through.
3. The stage needs to be cleaned off. We have lots of stray lumber and stuff that needs to go (I will ask Jeff for his assistance on this). As you can see there is plenty of work to be done. Unless someone has a better idea, we will donate useable items to the Salvation Army. So, here is the plea.
We need your help. I am sending this to those of you who have participated in our productions over the years and hopefully have enjoyed being with us.
We haven’t been pushy on fundraisers like other theater groups are and we don’t ask for help often.
So if you can give us some of your time next Saturday that would be very appreciated. Heck, we’ll even spring for Costco pizza!
