Rossmoor Woman’s Club’s successful garden tour

The 10th annual Outdoor Living and Garden Tour, hosted by the Rossmoor Woman’s Club, grossed moere than $12,000 making it a huge success and exceeding our expectations.

This was due to the tremendous support we received from the homeowners, sponsors, vendors, local newspapers, and local merchants who sold tickets.

Proceeds from the tour go to local charities including, but not inclusive, Los Alamitos Museum, Precious Life Shelter, and Rossmoor Library. Over 720 visitors toured the front and back yards of seven homes and also shopped at our Outdoor Store.

Each garden was unique and colorful with many flowers on display and a great selection of outdoor living ideas.

The weather cooperated—it was a perfect California day with sunshine and a slight breeze.

We want to thank the following homeowners who were so gracious in opening up their gardens to us: John and Allyson Zahn “Mediterranean Sunset;” Harold and Ethel Seal “Art In The Garden;” Dan and Marla Welsh “Staycation Resort;” Robert and Noreen Curry “California Living;” Suzie Good “Italian Renaissance;” Brian and Elizabeth Tomasin “Kensington Garden Spa;” and Steve and Lauretta Collins “Garden Trio.”

Twenty-one vendors at the Outdoor Store sold everything from purses and jewelry to plants and worm castings.

It was a beautiful setting under the big olive tree and everyone seemed to enjoy the selections.

A special thanks to Shirley Lynsky and her husband Jim for hosting this at their home.

Thank you to the six local merchants who sold tickets for the event:  Brita’s Old Town Gardens, Elementals, McNally Electric and Lightning, Prep Kitchen Essentials, Standing Ovation Flower Gallery, and Designing Whims/Tamara Rene Designs.

Thank you to our sponsors who, by their generosity, helped defray the costs of our Garden Tour: Steve Leitner, Jr. with First Team Real Estate, Luis and Esteban Contreras with Contreras Gardening Services, John Zahn with Sunset Designers and Builders, Beverly Rigney with Edward Jones Investments, Darrell Poper with Standing Ovation Flower Gallery, Dr. Avani Patel with Alamitos Eye Care, The Shops at Rossmoor, Kathy McNally with McNally Electric and Lighting, TKR Architects and Builders, Matt Preuss with The Cutting Edge, Denise Scandura with Star Real Estate, Ganahl Lumber, and Phillip De Matte with First Team Real Estate.

Thank you to Dennis Kaiser of the Sun and Ted Apodaca of the News Enterprise for their continued support and the wonderful publicity we received.

This event is one of two major fundraisers held by the Rossmoor Woman’s Club each year.  We greatly appreciate all who worked so hard to make this year’s Garden Tour so successful.

Our Garden Tour is always held on the third Sunday in May, so please mark your calendars.

I didn’t get their names

I didn’t get their names—I wish to thank the firemen who helped me out of a smoke filled hallway Monday morning, June 10, at 12:30 a.m. They escorted me out, gave me oxygen, and a cold bottle of water. They took my vitals and asked if I was feeling better.

Due to their fast response and training, no one was hurt.

I hope no one else has to wake up from sleep to chaos, but if you do, these firemen are like guiding angels to lead you away from harm and maybe even save a life.

Thank you unit M17 and all firemen.
