Is Seal Beach unfriendly to businesses?
I am a Seal Beach resident and small business owner, and I am concerned that the character of this wonderful city is changing.
The recent closing of Ruby’s on the Pier, coupled with the earlier loss of bus service to and from Long Beach, at least partially due to Seal Beach City Council action seems to me to indicate a less than business friendly attitude by the council.
Admittedly, I am not aware of all of the details surrounding Ruby’s departure; however, from the information available, it appears that the Ruby’s ownership seemed to have gotten the impression that the city was not interested in continuing with their relationship. Could they have gotten this impression from a 150 percent rent increase?
As a businessman, this action sounds more like a constructive eviction than an attempt to enter into serious negotiations. I will miss having this landmark on the pier and sincerely hope the building does not become a magnet for vandalism and a reason for not enjoying this beautiful place.
