He who steals trash breaks the law

Thank you for your inquiry.  It is indeed unlawful for folks to “steal” trash from trashcans, dumpsters, etc., in the city of Seal Beach.  Doing so has the potential to cost the city a great deal of money if it cannot make its trash-weight-quota set by the state.

However, you can do something about it.  Whenever you observe someone rifling through your or a neighbor’s garbage, please call us immediately.  Provide us the best possible description of the miscreant(s), their vehicle, etc.  If you don’t recognize the make or model of the vehicle, note the color, number of passengers, license plate number (or partial number), and importantly its last known location or last direction of travel.

If our officers are available, they will contact the vehicle and its occupants. They may ultimately issue them a citation or even arrest them—the violation is that important to you and the city.

Please call our business line, (562) 799-4100, and connect to our dispatchers when you observe this type of event.  Remember, 911 is used for life threatening emergencies only.  Thanks again and we look forward to hearing from you.  Feel free to inform your neighbors of these contents.

Try a turkey substitute

I just had to write to say thank you to Lewis Frederick for writing his “Celebrate a Vegetarian Thanksgiving” Letter to the Editor (in the Thursday, Nov. 25 issue of the Sun Newspapers).

I’m sure that most people don’t understand what deplorable and inhumane conditions turkeys are subjected to.  I’ve been a vegetarian for about 17 years now.  Mr. Frederick mentioned Tofurky in his article, which is wonderful, but I thought I’d pass along my family’s very favorite turkey substitute for him to check out; Worthington Farms Smoked “Turkey” Loaf.  It’s absolutely delicious.

Thank you so much for all of the wonderful articles as well!  I’m so happy to be a part of this wonderful community!

Happy Holidays!
