Liking the bistro

I moved to Seal Beach just five years ago and love the city. Have tried all of the restaurants in town, and even tried the one that has become my favorite three different times, under different owners, but was always disappointed. Since it is just a few steps away from my office, I really wanted to like it.

Then seven months ago, a new owner took over, made a name change and the food became really great. The quality and variety of dishes are outstanding, service is very good from all family members and price is a real bargain.

The name of this hidden jewel at the rear of 600 Pacific Coast Highway is Rocharin Thai Bistro and the Thai food is outstanding, the best in the Seal Beach area and I have tried them all. My wife, who is not a Thai food fan, has been won over and we eat there at least three times a week for lunch or dinner.

Have never been disappointed with the food.

Dear Los Al Families

It just came to (the Los Alamitos Unified School District’s) attention that a silver minivan was again spotted in Rossmoor close to Lee Elementary. A man threatened and tried to lure two different students to his van. All of our K-8 schools will not release students today (Wednesday, April 10) unless it is to a parent, guardian, or someone on the student’s emergency cards. We do not feel it is safe to let students walk home from school today. We’ve been communicating with the Orange County Sheriff. I will keep you posted should I learn anything new.

All of our K-5 and Oak students have already been dismissed today. However, any student on these campuses for after-school programs will also need to be picked up by a parent, guardian, or someone on the student’s emergency cards.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

With gratitude,

Sherry Kropp

Pick up after pets

Well it never ceases to amaze me, but like clockwork, the neighborhood morons are purposefully taking their dogs to McGaugh Elementary School and allowing them to run free and poop all over the school fields.

If you can, please print something in your wonderful paper regarding this, how these people are willfully choosing to break laws regarding picking up after your pet, as well as the Seal Beach leash laws, the health risks involved, and the effect their stupidity and shear laziness has on the young children at the school.

Sheriff’s Department says no crime has occurred

Re: the “Child Abductions,” understand that the school district has an obligation to their family members to advise them of any suspicious activity. (Sherry Kropp and I spoke on Thursday, April 11). Neither one of these incidents amounted to an attempted child abduction. The first incident (March 24) was investigated by the deputy in the field and garnered only a log item as “suspicious.”

After reading the log item, I prompted the deputy to write an Information Report—as opposed to a Crime Report.  Investigators went one step further and initiated a BOLO (be on the lookout) after meeting with the girls and a sketch artist.  After the BOLO was circulated, the Rossmoor residents began to worry. Last week, five students from Lee Elementary reported various stories involving the same grey minivan.

We dispatched two deputies and four investigators and conducted interviews of the students as well as the teacher’s aides that were assigned to the playground.

As a result of these interviews it was determined that all of the student accounts differed and the teacher’s aides even refuted what the children reported, such as the student were standing near the perimeter fence when the van drove by … the teacher’s aides told investigators that the children were nowhere near the fence line, which is approximately 80-yards from the playground. Investigators are still working on leads to locate the original grey minivan, but that is simply to talk to the driver and find out what he was doing in Rossmoor on March 24th.

As of yet, what has occurred has not amounted to a crime.

Hope this helps.

Chick-fil-A kindness

Last Thursday, April 11, 2013, my daughter-in-law, Jilynn Elliott was at lunch at Chick-fil-A at the Carson Town Center in Long Beach with her two young sons and some friends.  While there my grandson, Lucas, 2-1/2 years old, had a seizure. The staff was extremely helpful and caring in treating this situation.  The people in the restaurant were also amazing.   There was a nurse that came to his assistance and stayed until the paramedics arrived.  The restaurant was filled with people who were praying for Lucas and anxious to help out. Lucas is doing fine now and is being treated by his doctor.  Our family is filled with gratitude and we will definitely remain regular customers of this restaurant.  We are so fortunate to have this kind of family business so near our community.

No pier tram needed

No business at the end (of the pier), no need.

 Re: tram on pier

The last tram had an unpleasant beeping sound, which may have been required to warn pedestrians, but that disturbed the natural sounds of the ocean.
