Rebutttal re: blog

In a letter last week, Lisette Gabler shared her concerns about my little local blog, LetsFixLosAl.com.  I’ve known Lisette for several years, and am sorry she was offended by some of the comments others posted there.

Actually, I’ve been working hard to improve things over the past year.

Unfortunately, an inability to disagree diplomatically has become all too common in Los Alamitos politics. Distortions, hateful speech and half truths were all too common in our last Council election, and have emerged early this year as well.

However, compared to most blogs where politics is frequently discussed, the comments on LetsFixLosAl are relatively civil and the language quite tame.  I’m continually encouraging those who post comments to be even more diplomatic, and to maintain “family friendly language appropriate to our small town.”

I allow almost all comments to post instantly, which provides for a more lively, real-time discussion. I try to review all comments daily, and to delete or rephrase comments that are especially offensive.

I try to apply the “Golden Rule” to my own posts and treat others the way I’d want to be treated.  When others point out my failures in that area I try to correct them.

I believe more unites us than separates us, but it takes effort to rebuild bridges that were burned in past elections. Everyone is free to express their opinion on LetsFixLosAl.com, so the discussion can get lively, but that’s what can lead to understanding if only neighbors try to understand and value each other.

Working together, we really can fix Los Alamitos.

Yard sale great success

I wanted to get back to you and the good people of Seal Beach and let you know just how successful the efforts of everyone involved were…..here’s my take on it….

“”God had a Yard Sale on Saturday, August 21 and it was amazingly successful!”

There really isn’t any other way to explain the generosity of the individuals who donated items that were sold, gave of themselves to help set up the event and donated their own time, overseeing the sale of items on that day as well as those wonderful people who came by to personally deliver cash donations and gift cards just for the cause. My brother and his wife Barbara were able to attend for several hours with seven of the young brood and the kids enjoyed hot dogs anfd soda, meeting people and writing thank you notes.

A special sincere thank you to Karen Willcutt for all of her donations; her address, food, sale items, time and energy and her cash contributions….I think I have the best friends in the whole world. Thank you to everyone who made this event such a success as we were able to raise $1500, over and above the original goal. The additional funds are being used to fix teeth and the family passenger van to make sure the family is healthy and mobile while Robert is away in Colorado.

I think the way this story has unfolded from the beginning of first publication, has been a true miracle. I just don’t know how else to describe the serendipity that had surrounded my family in their time of need. Thank you again.
