Safety in the palm of our hands

Regarding the amazing new palm trees on First Street and Ocean Boulevard: have any of our council members walked the sidewalks lately?  Do they know the beautiful palm fronds are blocking the sidewalks?

These jagged-edged, sharp-pointed limbs supporting the beautiful palm fronds do inflict painful wounds when brushed up against. I understand and appreciate our tree people have fund raisers to keep our city beautiful but why put in a bunch of palm trees that carries a price tag with it to maintain them.

Why even plant a palm tree that that cannot maintain a clearance of eight feet above the ground for public safety?

I know our previous council members think they have unlimited funds to waste, why invite a possible lawsuit?

Palm fronds are very dangerous and when not maintained in a timely manner they can inflict pain and damage when the wind blows the fronds off.

Does the council listen to peoples’ concerns? One would hope so.

Misunderstood content

I wish to  apologize to Ms Peddicord for misunderstanding the content of a previous  letter that she submitted to the Sun regarding the DWP property. It was my  understanding that she wish the DWP property owners to donate “all” of their  property to the city and take the write-off, not just the section of road  leading to the Rivers End. It is my understanding that the owners have in fact offered to donate this portion of their property, with approval of their current development plan (as outlined effectively by Brett Florio’s letter).
