Lonnie Dean, a resident of Mutual 7, just returned from participating in the Huntsman World Senior Games in St George, Utah. He won the Gold medal in table tennis for his age group and also won a bronze medal in table tennis mixed doubles.
From October 4 – 16, 2010, southern Utah will have played host to senior athletes from 60 different countries. More than 10,000 athletes, aged 50 years plus will have participated in this year’s games, the highest number in the event’s history.
There is no other event like it in the world and draws people from as far as Japan to Russia and from Alaska to Australia. More than 200 players were involved in the table tennis competition. Lonnie also played tennis at the games and made it through three rounds until he was defeated in the Semi-finals.
