Long Beach State junior Sofia Lavreshina was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Female Athlete of the Week on Jan. 23.
Lavershina broke the 36-year-old school record in the 400m during prelims at the Air Force Lindeman Invite on Jan. 19. She ran a 54.71aa to reset Kerri Zaleski’s 1988 mark. Lavreshina then ran 54.88 in the finals to win the event. That time is currently ranked 44th in Division I. She also helped her 4×440 relay team to a win (3:57.60).
Lavreshina, of Pombal, Portugal, is a transfer from James Madison, where she ran a personal best 54.75 at the 2022 ECAC Indoor Championships. The Junior transfer was a three-time U18 National Championship qualifier who set a Portuguese U18 400m record of 56.57.
Long Beach State returns to action Feb. 8-9 at the University of New Mexico’s Don Kirby Invitational. FloTrack will stream the meet for a fee with all links available on LongBeachState.com.
