Eleven students from Mrs. Cross’s class at McGaugh School participated in the Knights of Columbus’ Pine Derby 500. The event was sponsored by St. Anne’s Knights of Columbus Council 9594 in Seal Beach. Members of the Knight’s Leo Zuvich, Mike Maloney, Hal Noring, Jack Wiegand and Bob Eastland helped the students get their cars ready for the big race.
Building the cars gave the students the opportunity to work with wood and hand tools. The Knights had a lot of fun with the youngsters and it was great to see the children’s excitement the day of the race. The winners were presented trophies for first, second and third place. All the other students received medals for their participation.
