The Seal Beach Junior Lifeguard program is currently in its third week of this summer with 370 participants.
Throughout the course of this seven-week program, the already skilled swimmers will learn a multitude of first-aid and ocean safety skills through physically demanding training that involves swimming, running, paddling, pier drills, boat drills, and more.
Surf and body boarding lessons are also included with the training.
“We expect them to learn about ocean safety and to have fun doing it,” said Marine Safety Chief Joe Bailey.
The program downsized from 400 junior lifeguards last summer due to less staffing, but the remaining staff are just as dedicated to teaching these swimmers how to be safe in the ocean.
