Seal Beach Junior Lifeguard participants ages 14-17 (A/AA division or 14 years of age by the start of the program) can apply to become cadets in the Seal Beach Junior Lifeguard Captain’s Corp program.
The objective of the program is to provide leadership experience to exceptional junior guards.
This year’s members are Evan Scales, Brad Hartwyk, Jordan Sickler, Brooke Anger, Paige Cooper, and Brenna Knapp.
By participating in Captain’s Core, cadets will: 1) assist junior lifeguard instructors with all aspects of daily activities. Specifically, they will help ensure the safety of other junior lifeguard participants, 2) shadow professional lifeguards as they effect ocean rescues, respond to medical emergencies, and interact with beachgoers, and 3) have the opportunity to acquire additional training beyond that of the junior lifeguard program such as, CPR certification.
In sum, cadets will be placed in a leadership role and gain real-world experience relevant to the ocean lifeguarding profession.
All participants in the A division will have the opportunity to become a cadet.
The selection process includes a competitive ocean swim (800 m) and a run-swim-run event. Competitive applicants will then go through a formal interview process.
