Principal moving to
Torrance district as
a ‘step up’ in career

The principal of McGaugh School—a beloved and respected community leader for the past three years—has resigned to take a job at the district level in Torrance. Dr. Jerry Gargus made the announcement to the school community on Tuesday in a letter to the families of McGaugh students.
“I struggled with the decision to leave McGaugh. It is truly a very special place,” the letter stated.
Gargus, who came to McGaugh from the Westminster School District, will be the Coordinator of Interventions and Instruction with the Torrance Unified School District. He lives near that district office and his wife also teaches in the Torrance District.
“It’s a step forward in my career and I have enjoyed every single minute of my job here at McGaugh,” Gargus said.
Gargus is leaving on a high note for the school. McGaugh earned the California Gold Ribbon School Award, and the Exemplary Arts Program Award. One of its teachers was recognized as the Orange County Music and Arts Administrator’s Teacher of the year and one of the team members was recognized as Classified Employee of the Year by the Los Alamitos Unified School District.
The District Superintendent, Dr. Sherry Kropp, will be working with others in the coming weeks to select a new principal for the Seal Beach elementary school.
