About 2,000 Leisure World residents and nearby businesses were without power for nearly four hours Monday, as winds reaching more than 40 miles per hour downed power lines, upended trees and led to the collapse of a concrete wall on Westminster Boulevard.
The Seal Beach Police Department and Orange County Fire Authority closed several blocks of St. Andrews Drive in Leisure World as Southern California Edison repaired downed power lines serving the east side of the gated community.
The Leisure World health center, security and administrative offices went dark at 7 a.m., as did businesses in the adjacent Seal Beach Village shopping center at Westminster and Seal Beach Boulevard. Though power was lost in some areas for only a few minutes, others were without service until 7 p.m. Leisure World is home to roughly one third the population of Seal Beach.
